Local Education Programme (LEP)

Each year, students from Grade 7 to Grade 10 will participate in the LEP. By the end of Grade 10, they would have visited 4 different regions / provinces which are a good representation of this country.

Why LEP?

China, as the world most populous country in the world with over 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 direct-controlled municipalities (Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, and Chongqing) and 2 Special Administrative Regions (Hong Kong and Macau) provides tremendous opportunities for students to develop life-skills and hone their character.

It is important that our local Chinese students have a clear and positive identity as well as a good understanding of their history, culture and heritage as a country before they are ready to take on the challenges presented in this globally connected world.

China, as one of the superpower of the world with one of the oldest ancient civilizations also presents a unique opportunity to our foreign students to widen their horizons to understand the Chinese Culture so that they are better prepared to collaborate well with their Chinese counterparts in the years to come.

LEP Learning Objectives

Each LEP has the following learning objectives:

· To understand the unique characteristics of each region or province, including the local people, their culture and their heritage;

· To engage in meaningful interactions with students in the local schools;

· To develop compassion for the local community through service learning, where opportunity arises;

· To provide opportunities for students to develop personal competence, social-emotional competence, problem-solving skills and collaboration skills.
