Overview of DSI’s Academic Programmes
The Desheng School (International), DSI, has 3 academic programmes. They are:
1. Foundation Programme for Middle School (FPMS)
2. Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education programme (IGCSE)
3. International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
We believe that through our carefully designed programmes, our students will enjoy international education at its finest. Our curriculum, teaching, learning and assessment (both formative and summative) are closely aligned with the expectations of Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) and International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).
Alignment stems from knowing what we want students to learn, understanding how we will know that learning has happened, and encouraging teaching and learning approaches that support it. Coupled with our eclectic style of education philosophy from renowned education fraternities around the world (such as UK, USA and Singapore), we are confident to inspire students to love learning, helping them discover new abilities and a wider world. We help students develop the skills they need for life, to succeed at school, university and work. This is where East truly meets West!
For Grade 7 to 8: Foundation Programme for Middle School (FPMS)
DSI’s Foundation Programme is especially catered for students entering into international education. It is a complete 2-year programme that helps to
· connect the primary education with that of middle school education,
· bridge the gap between PRC’s national curriculum and international curriculum,
· strengthen and reinforce students’ English proficiency with content and language integration and higher exposure time for the language,
· employ sequential increase in number of learning subjects, and
· use 50-50 English and Chinese mode of instruction in teaching.
The Foundation Programme also includes a strong emphasis on DSI’s core values of Respect, Integrity, Self-discipline and Excellence.
For Grade 9 to 10: Cambridge IGCSE programme (IGCSE)
According to the Cambridge Assessment International Examinations:
Cambridge IGCSE is the world’s most popular international qualification for 14 to 16 year olds. It is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide, and is an international passport to progression and success. Developed over 30 years ago, it is tried, tested and trusted by schools worldwide.
Leading universities and employers worldwide accept Cambridge IGCSE as evidence of academic ability.

Over and above the IGCSE programme, DSI also initiates a Super-Curriculum which helps students learn skills like research, problem-solving, and more, outside of the academic curriculum. Formative assessments such as Student-Initiated Projects and Future Problem Solving competitions are introduced to reinforce students’ learning. Similarly, DSI has designed the Advanced Studies, a select academic subjects, to deepen learning in the respective subjects using robust pedagogies. Advanced Studies subjects are not offered for the IGCSE examination but to nourish the growing passion that our students are imbued with, and to provide them with greater exposure to issues that have gained currency, within and across those specific subjects. Through these programmes, DSI hopes to help students develop their passion for life-long learning and compassion to serve the community.
For Grade 11 to 12: International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP)
In the words of the IB:
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) is an assessed programme for students aged 16 to 19. It is respected by leading universities across the globe.
Through the DP, schools are able to develop students who:
· have excellent breadth and depth of knowledge
· flourish physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically
· study at least two languages
· excel in traditional academic subjects
· explore the nature of knowledge through the programme’s unique theory of knowledge course.
DSI encourages its students to embody the IB learner profile by being inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, openminded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective. In line with the IB’s mission “to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect,” DSI emphasizes on consolidation of knowledge and skills and aims to develop students to be Scholar, Leader and Global Citizen in our highly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
